Clinton Rost (American, 20th/21st c). Oil on panel painting titled "Self Trapped State," 1997. Clinton Rost is a Minneapolis-based artist specializing in oil painting and drawing. Often working from cafes, Clinton Rost has scoured the Twin Cities exploring isolation in public spaces. Rost is interested in the collective solitude of the coffee shop, a place where many gather but few are social. In his words, the artist strives "to capture the mood, the air stirring around the seemingly lonesome souls in the very public place of the cafe. This has been my inspiration."
