Whiting Manufacturing Co., United States. Sterling silver punch bowl decorated throughout with ornate vines with bunches of full grapes delicately dangling from the vines, 1884. A snake winds from the three feet and seemingly disappears into the bowl only to reappear winding through the vines along the upper rim. The hammered interior with a gold wash harkens to the scales of the serpent along the exterior. With a Whiting silver mark, "STERLING," and 1422A stamped along the underside. Additionally marked "Shreve Crump & Low, Boston, U.S.A.," along the underside. With a monogrammed "M" along the side.
Height: 6 5/8 in x diameter: 12 1/2 in. Gross weight of sterling: 91.6 Troy oz.

Condition

The bowl is in fair condition. Wear throughout, consistent with age and use. There are no visible losses. There is light oxidation throughout the bowl, particularly to its recessed areas. Along the underside, there is one major dent that measures 6 inches, visible in the lot listing. There is an additional dent near the larger aforementioned dent. Two of the feet have small dents. Along the interior of the bowl, there is wear and oxidation throughout, as expected. Along the rim, there are areas with minute dents that do not affect the overall appearance of the bowl.
