Possibly Sir William Hamilton (British, 1730-1803). Engraving on paper depicting the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur in a circular cartouche flanked by three figures on each side.
Possibly from the book "Collection of engravings from ancient vases mostly of pure Greek workmanship discovered in sepulchres in the kingdom of the Two Sicilies but chiefly in the neighbourhood of Naples during the course of the years MDCCLXXXIX. and MDCCLXXXX. now in the possession of Sir Wm. Hamilton ... with remarks on each vase by the collector." (Naples: Wm. Tischbein, 1791-1795).
Sheet; height: 19 3/4 in x width: 14 3/4 in.
The sheet is slightly toned, with instances of foxing and soiling throughout the recto and verso. There is undulation to the sheet. There is light wear along the deckled edges. There is slight discoloration along the perimeters of the image and along the extreme edges of the sheet. The edges are slightly uneven. There is some creasing to the lower and lower-left and upper-left edges of the sheet. There is a minute tear to the right edge of the sheet. There is a minute tear to the lower edge of the sheet. The print is not framed.
