One color gelatin silver print or original vintage press photographic reproduction from the archives of the Star Tribune depicting Pope John Paul II in front of St. John’s Basilica greeting a crowd that reaches out to him. Pope John Paul II was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State for twenty seven years from 1978 until his death in 2005. He campaigned against political oppression, violence, and materialism and he holds the record as the third longest serving pontificate in history.

Provenance: From the archives of the Star Tribune, established over 150 years ago, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
