One gelatin silver print or original vintage press photographic reproduction from the archives of the Star Tribune depicting Nikita Khrushchev at a luncheon in Austria with Premier Leopold Figl and commerce minister von Niederosterreich. During this visit, Khrushchev slipped up when he offended the Austrian public by sleeping through a gala performance on Mozart’s “Magic Flute.” Khrushchev led the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War, serving as premier from 1958 to 1964 and sponsored the early Soviet space program.

Provenance: From the archives of the Star Tribune, established over 150 years ago, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
