Jose Dominguez (born Casa Grande, Arizona, 20th/21st c). Archival inkjet print on paper titled "It's Okay to Laugh," 2023. From a limited edition of 20. "It's Okay to Laugh" was originally an installation by Twin Cities-based artist Jose Dominguez, filling the windows of the skyway above Robert Street with lively and colorful vinyl designs of imagined creatures. The characters capture the dynamism of the skyway system - a space people move through repeatedly, but where they always encounter new faces. Dominguez aims to interrupt the daily ebb and flow of traffic by infusing the space with a sense of play, as his exaggerated characters play hide-and-seek with the public. Taking their inspiration from classic children's illustrations such as "The Pink Panther," these joyful and unexpected creatures highlight the absurdity and humor of daily human interactions. The M commissioned a limited series of twenty "It's Okay to Laugh" prints for Momentum 2023. Height: 20 in x width: 16 in.
