John Mascoll (born Barbados, 1951). Buckeye burl carved wooden vase titled "Norfolk Island," 1996. Woodturning artist John Mascoll seeks to create objects that showcase the beauty of wood through different shapes, finishes, and surfaces. The artist inherited a deep appreciation of wood from his father, a carpenter and boat builder. Mascoll's wood vessels are held by numerous collections including the Smithsonian. His work was also included in the Smithsonian's 2022-2023 exhibition "This Present Moment: Crafting a Better Future," which showcased the dynamic landscape of American craft today.
