Ben Shahn (Born-Lithuanian/American, 1898-1969). Lithograph on paper titled "We Shall Overcome" from the "Nine Drawings" Portfolio, 1965, titled along the top center with a portrait of a young African American man outlined in Shahn's signature barbed-wire line. He stares intensely at the viewer. The title references a song that became an unofficial anthem of the American civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s made famous by folk musician and activist Pete Seeger (1919-2014).
