Possibly After John Flaxman (British, 19th century) for Wedgwood, England. Black basalt library bust titled "Mercury" depicting the titular Roman god truncated at the chest, donning a winged helmet and gazing to the left, 19th to 20th century. Mounted to a waisted circular socle base. Titled along the front; impressed marks along the verso between the shoulders and along the interior of the footrim reading "Wedgwood."
Height: 17 1/2 in x width: 10 1/2 in x depth: 10 in.
There are no major chips, losses, or restorations to the bust. There are two small, square-shaped accretions along the visor of the hat that are approximately 1/2 in in length each. Some chips along the upper rim of the base. Dust gathered throughout the recessed areas.
