Patent model for creating paper bags, ca. late 19th century. Similar to the machine created by Margaret E. Knight, the ingenious female engineer behind the earliest mass-market paper bags. She received her patent in 1871 and the Smithsonian Institute possesses a working patent model, such as the item offered here.
