Large Japanese arita ware porcelain bowl or basin, Edo period, late 17th century. With hand-painted cobalt blue underglaze depicting a serene mountainous village landscape along the interior surface, a geometric diamond-form pattern along the interior rim, and profuse floral motifs along the exterior. Illegibly marked along the underside.
Height: 6 1/4 in x diameter: 12 1/4 in.
There are no major chips or losses. There is a small area along the underside of the piece with either a light crack (which does not extend through the bottom of the bowl) or crazing to the glaze. Small firing flaws throughout. Light wear to the footrim.
