Duane Lacapa (Hopi-Apache, 20th/21st century). Carved wooden figure with painted details titled "Kwahu Eagle Kachina" depicting a winged human form dressed in elaborate indigenous regalia, perched atop a wooden platform carved in the form of a stone or rock surface, 1991. With rectangular glass case and mirror vitrine. Incised and inscribed signature in pencil along the left edge of the underside; incised "Kwahu Eagle Kachina 3"91"" along the right edge of the underside.

Katsina (or kachina) dolls are sacred figures crafted in Hopi culture as well as other Native American cultures of the Southwest, representing spiritual beings from their mythology. They are typically made from cottonwood and adorned with painted, symbolic details. They play a vital role in Hopi religious ceremonies and serve as educational tools for passing down tribal traditions and values.

The wooden figure appears in good condition with no breaks, chips, or losses. Some glue visible along the knees where applied elements are attached, likely original. The colors are bright. There is some wear to the vitrine including accretions where the katchina doll was attached to the mirrored base. Some small chips to the mirror. Light wear to the box element.
