"Visions of the North" showcases art across time ranging from antique photographs showing the early years of Minnesota's history to recent works by contemporary artists such as Cameron Booth, George Morrison, and Warren MacKenzie. Also available is a broad collection of archival photography from the archives of the Star Tribune depicting notable personalities such as: past and present Presidents, musicians like NSYNC and The Beatles, cinema icons from Elizabeth Taylor to John Wayne, and much more!

David Rathman (American, b. 1958). Watercolor and ink on paper titled "Valdez is Coming," depicting a portrait of a cowboy, 2013. Signed and dated along the verso. With labels from the Weinstein Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Exhibited at the Orlando Museum of Art in the show "David Rathman: Stand By Your Accidents" from September 27, 2014 to January 4, 2015.

Nationally-celebrated and locally-based, David Rathman is best known for his images of stereotypically masculine motifs in American life, like cars, cowboys, and scenes of the Old West. Rathman has received fellowships from the McKnight, Bush, and Jerome Foundations and the Minnesota Book Award. His work is also included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Stanford University, and Walker Art Center.

Unframed; height: 12 in x width: 17 in. Framed; height: 19 in x width: 23 1/2 in x depth: 1 3/4 in. The colors are bold and deep. There are no visible tears, creases, or losses. There are a few yellow accretions to the surface along the right half of the work. The painting is floated in frame. Framed under plexiglass. Light wear to the frame. Not examined out of frame.
