David Rathman (American, b. 1958). Oil on canvas painting titled "Myst" depicting a scattered group of words, phrases, and symbols over a blue ground, 1997. The painting is signed and dated along the verso.

David Rathman earned his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1982. Rathman currently lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Not limiting himself to a painter, he expands his medium to limited edition books, prints, and films. His work has been housed in numerous outstanding national art institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Walker Art Center.

The colors are bold and deep and the surface is stable. There are no major tears or cracks. Along the lower right corner there is a small repair and inpainting, measuring approximately 3/4 inch in diameter; there is a corresponding patch along the verso. There is a small crack to the paint layer along the top center edge measuring approximately 1/2 inch in length. Along the upper right corner there is a shallow horizontal crack and scuff to the paint layer measuring approximately 3 inches in length. Wear along the edges, especially the corners. The work is not framed.
