Currier and Ives was founded by Nathaniel Currier (American, 1813-1888) in 1835 as "the Grand Central Depot for Cheap and Popular Prints," but changed its name with the addition of James Merritt Ives (American, 1824-1895) in 1857. The company created over 7000 popular lithographs depicting American life until 1907.

The sheet is toned. There is foxing throughout. There are two tears along the upper left edge; there is a deep crease between the two tears that threatens to break. There is a small loss along the upper right edge. There is a small tear (reinforced with tape along the verso) along the upper center edge. Toning and foxing to the verso. Two pencil inscriptions along the verso: "#23" along the upper right; "Egg" along the lower left. There are five pieces of framer's tape affixed to the upper edge of the verso. No restorations when viewed under UV light. The work is not framed.
