Chinese embroidered silk imperial rank badge depicting a tiger. Profusely and intricately embroidered with gold thread on a black silk background. The tiger indicated a third rank senior commander in the Ming dynasty and a fourth rank regimental vice commander in the Qing dynasty.
Height: 11 1/2 in x width: 11 3/4 in. There are no tears, losses, or restorations. The colors are slightly dull. There are some areas of loose threads along the edges. Evidence of moisture exposure along the verso. Some stains and general wear throughout the verso. The work is not framed.
