Shannon's works often focused on the American South, especially around the River Region of Alabama. He is often credited with discovering fellow artist Bill Traylor. He helped buy supplies and support Traylor, who was homeless at the time of their meeting, and promoted his art.Sight; height: 30 in x width: 39 3/4 in. There are no visible restorations when viewed under UV light. There is a small paint loss and some cupping near the center of the work. An additional stretcher bar has been added to the verso of the work for stabilization. Some fraying to the extreme edges of the canvas along the verso. Some wear to the frame including small chips and losses to the gilding.
