20th c. Sumatra Indoneisan carved hasapi instrument inlaid with Dutch East Indies coins dated 1939 (1 cent), 1945 (1 cent), and 1945 (2 1/2 cent). The words "Lake Toba" are carved into the piece. Wear from age and apparent use including scuffs, scratches, a few small chips, and discoloration of wood. Top carving portion slides into instrument portion on via peg and hole. Peg is damaged, damaged portion still inside hole and prevents upper portion from attaching correctly. Missing one of two strings. Height: 49 in x width: 6 in x depth: 4 1/2 in.
