Camille Hilaire (French, 1916-2004). Oil on canvas painting depicting two jockeys on their race horses. Signed along the lower right. This work is a subject he painted often in the 1960s-70s, which shows his influence from his Cubist teacher, Andre Lhote.
Unframed; height: 10 3/4 in x width: 18 in. Framed; height: 16 in x width: 23 1/4 in. The colors are bold and bright. The surface is stable. There is minute paint loss throughout, primarily in the upper right quadrant. There is faint craquelure, primarily in the upper right quadrant. Along the verso the extreme edge of the canvas is slightly frayed. Not inspected out of frame. No signs of restoration under UV light. There is wear to the frame.
