Utagawa Kunisada "Utagawa Toyokuni III" (Japanese, 1786-1865). Group of four Japanese ukiyo-e kabuki woodblock prints depicting figures in action. All likely were once part of a series of woodblock prints intended as a diptych or triptych. Each with seals in plate.
Height: 14 1/2 in x width: 10 in.
Wear throughout all four prints including toning, small creases, and soiling. The margins have been trimmed. One print (depicting a kneeling man on a teal background) has been affixed to a paper backing with calligraphy. There is a major crease running horizontally through the center of the work with a tear in the right margin along this crease. The print of two men (one dressed in black and the other in green) with soiling along the face of the green-garbed man. None of the works are mounted to matboards or are framed.
