19th century Renaissance Revival Continental, likely German, sterling silver rectangular casket set on four foliate legs with hinged lid and interior lined with purple velvet and exterior elaborately chased throughout depicting five scenes of Greek mythology.

The top panel depicts the Greek god Apollo riding through the sky in a chariot holding a lyre, a known attribute of his. The central panel depicts the Greek goddess Athena with Pegasus, showering the land with flowers while Poseidon is shown holding his trident and lounging in the clouds with a nude woman. The left side panel depicts the Greek goddess Artemis seated in the clouds surrounded by a deer and a child. The back panel possibly depicts the story of Cadmus and Thebes; Cadmus, who was consulted by Athena, might be represented in this panel by her owl in the lower left. The right side panel shows a large feast hall with many people dressed in 17th century garb.

Label affixed to the lid which reads "To J. Scholefield. Razor Strop & Dressing Case Manufacturer. No. 27 Smith Street. Northampton Square. Despatch Boxes. Luncheon Cases. Railway or Travellers' Companions. Jewel Cases. Writing Cases. & c." Additional handwritten note on the label which reads "Relined by. August 25, 1879."

Silver marks include: anchor with Eszett, the Lion Passant, a tree, a pinecone, and a clover.
