Warren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Studio pottery ceramic jar with lid. Stoneware with a dusty blue glaze. Decorated with MacKenzie's iconic fingermarks along the sides. With a conical lid. Stamped along the footrim.

Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.

Height: 6 1/2 in x diameter: 4 3/4 in.

Condition

No visible chips, cracks, or losses. No signs of restoration under UV light. Fingerprint marks in glaze along the footrim, original to artist. There are two stickers affixed along the interior of the lid. There is light wear along the lower rim of the lid and the top rim of the base, consistent with age and use. The top rim of the base has a minute knife mark, original to the artist. There is light wear to the footrim, consistent with age and use.
