Thomas Rose (American, 20th/21st c). Oil on wood with granite painting titled "Caelum" depicting a rock half submerged in the water with title carved along the upper, 1989. Signed and dated along the verso. Please note that this artwork is heavy.

Thomas Rose was a professor in the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota and retired in 2017. An internationally recognized artist, Rose’s work has been featured in the Weisman Art Museum, the Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Joslyn Museum, and has been displayed in countries around the world including China, Iran and Poland. Rose has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Rockefeller Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, Bush Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Jerome Foundation and others, as well as the Fesler-Lampert Chair in the Humanities at the University of Minnesota.

Condition

The colors are bold and bright. There is a light scuff along the right edge. No breaks or chips to the granite. Light wear to the frame. The artwork is heavy.
