Thomas Mason, London, England. Sterling silver handled cup, 1733. Stamped along the underside with maker's mark, sterling lion passant, city mark, and date letter. The side with a etched design of a coat of arms.
Provenance: From the collection of Frederick and Catherine Asher, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Frederick M. Asher and Catherine E. Asher were prominent scholars in the field of Art History. Both dedicated their lives to the education of students, teaching for many years as professors at the University of Minnesota. They both had a passion for South Asian art, traveling extensively throughout India, Asia, and the Middle East.
Height: 4 in x width (with handle) 4 3/4 in x diameter: 3 1/4 in. Weight: 8.95 Troy oz.
There are no deep scratches, losses, or restorations. Light scratches throughout consistent with age and polishing. Some tarnishing gathered in the recessed areas of the cup. There is a very small dent along the underside of the cup.
