Lovely parcel gilt bronze Chinese censer, likely Ming or Qing. With two looped handles and a densely worked background decorated along the side with scholar's objects. The style is very similar to works by Hu Wenming and his workshop. With a four-character mark along the underside reading "Collection of Huiwen Hall."

Hu Wenming is one of the most renowned metalworkers in Chinese history. Many of the works by Wenming are scholar's objects such as incense burners and brush pots. The densely worked backgrounds and high-relief gilt decoration are characteristic of his works. Examples similar to the one offered here are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of art (Accession No. 2015.500.6.22) and the Minneapolis Museum of Art (Accession No. 99.129.1).

Height: 3 in x diameter: 4 3/4 in. Weight: 383.6 g. No major dents, bends, breaks, or restorations. Tarnishing throughout, especially along the interior. Points of high polish to the bottoms of all three feet and the handles. Some scratches along the underside.
