Renato Giuseppe Bertelli (Italian, 1900-1974). Ceramic sculpture titled "Profilo Continuo (Testa di Mussolini)" or "Continuous Profile (Head of Mussolini)" depicting a continuous, 360 degree profile of Benito Mussolini (1883-1945), Prime Minister of Italy from 1922 to 1942, founder of the National Fascist Party, and leader or "Il Duce" of Italian Fascism from 1919 to his execution in 1945. This sculpture was first created in 1933 and has since been mass produced in various media, becoming a powerful tool of propaganda and an iconic portrait. An excellent example of Italian Futurism.
Height: 11 1/2 in x diameter: 9 3/4 in. The artwork is in good condition overall. There are several minute chips to the bust; no cracks or restorations. The surface under the figureís chin has a rough and uneven surface with several separations to the ceramic; appears to be original to the artistic process. There is overall surface wear throughout.
