Quarter plate Daguerreotype photograph depicting a portrait of a couple. The woman is standing with her hand resting on the shoulder of her seated partner. Housed under glass in a gilt frame encased by a stamped leather and wood case with deep purple velvet lining.
Provenance: Property from the distinguished collection of Mr. James Lee Soffer, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Height: 4 3/4 in x width: 3 1/2 in x depth: 1/2 in.
Some discoloration to the edges, only noticeable under a raking light. There are a few minor scratches throughout the plate. Very light wear to the metal and glass consistent with age. Some areas where the velvet has become slightly threadbare. Wear to the case commensurate with age and use.
