Paul Nanteuil (French, 1837-1901). Oil on canvas titled "Ariadne Abandoned," ca. 1856, depicting a nude woman, Ariadne from Greek myth, lying supine atop a pile of fabrics by the ocean. Signed and dated along the lower left. A gallery label from Shepherd Gallery, New York, New York is attached to the verso. The artwork is housed in an ornate gilded frame.
