Wilhelm Jakob "Mosse" Stoopendaal (Swedish, 1901-1948). Oil on canvas painting depicting two hooded crows in the snow, 1943. Signed and dated along the lower left.

Mosse Stoopendaal was educated in art by his father, the artist Georg Stoopendaal. Working outdoors, Stoopendaal's artworks primarily depict nature including landscapes, usually with animals such as birds, foxes, and hares. One of his greatest inspirations was Bruno Liljefors. Stoopendaal was a part of the Gothenburg Artist's Club and exhibited in Gothenburg and Stockholm.

Unframed; height: 37 3/4 in x width: 57 in. Framed; height: 38 3/4 in x width: 58 in.

Condition

No visible creases or major losses. The color is bold and bright. Throughout the recto, there are surface paint accretions, original to the artwork. Along the extreme edges, there is paint loss against the frame. To the lower left quadrant, there are a few scattered minute paint losses that are not visible at arm's length. To the center of the left margin, there is an area with brown unidentified accretions; please see the listing image. To the lower margin, there are visible stretcher bar marks. To the upper right quadrant, there is an area of possible restoration, measuring approximately 1 3/4 in by 1 in; visible from the verso as well. Along the verso, to the left center, there are unidentified accretions, possibly paint, that does not affect the recto. Wear to the wooden frame.
