Yoruba Epa helmet mask, Nigeria. The Janus faced helmet mask is surmounted by a highly detailed figural superstructure with a large central female figure with an elaborate hairstyle surrounded by smaller figures, likely a mother and children. This wood mask is polychrome painted in great detail. With a letter from John Pemberton III of the Amherst College Department of Religion, in which Pemberton identifies the mask as originating from a northern Ekiti town and notes its similarities to the work of artists Fashiku and Lamidi Fakeye.
