Maurits Cornelis "M.C." Escher (Dutch, 1898-1972). Woodcut on paper print titled "Padlock" from the series "Emblemata XXIV," ca. 1931. The work depicts a padlock with text above and below that reads "Repulsae Suspiciosae Torva Suboles [Repulsed by the Suspicious Scowl of the Underlings]" and "Van Kwade Trouw Het Beeld, Versperrend Naar Vermogen; In Onmin Eens Geteeld, In Achterdocht Getogen. [The image of bad faith, blocking the way as best as it can; once born in enmity, bred in suspicion." Pencil numbered 147/300 along the lower right.

Condition

There are no visible rips, losses, or restorations. The sheet is toned. Some light wear to the frame; framed under plexiglass; not inspected out of frame.
