This surrealist landscape showcases Golub’s gift for creating uncomfortable sensations in the viewer. Craggy, striking shapes rise up from the ground under a swirling, multicolored sky. The hills and stones are given dimension and texture by layers and layers of many-colored paint. There is tremendous movement throughout the sky; the clouds seem to boil and bubble and the wind whistle between the sharp, vertical edges of the features of the land. The jutting hills resemble faces, contorted and screaming with gaping, toothy maws. This landscape is an unsettling, almost disturbing experience, even as it is simply a landscape.

The colors are deep. The surface is stable. There are no visible tears, creases or losses. Due to the nature of the artwork is it difficult to tell if there is any areas of damage. Along the recto there are areas of adhesive residue throughout, in particular along the left and right sides. The is light wear to the extreme edges of the board. There are no signs of restoration under UV light.
