Very large textured and three-dimensional folk art painting depicting a castle, river, and the surrounding countryside.

Heavy wear throughout the recto and the verso. Throughout the recto, there is craquelure, most noticeably along the sky; there are patterned vertical crack lines, most likely from the wooden panels affixed along the verso. There are a few scattered spiral cracks throughout the sky, most noticeably to the center. There is toning and light brown accretions to the center quadrant. There are several areas with identified accretions adhered throughout the recto. Above the castle and to the upper left quadrant, there are areas that are discolored lighter than the rest of the painting, the biggest measuring 2 inches; however, they do not appear to be a restoration attempt under UV light. To the lower right, there is an area the old varnish has peeled off and appears lighter. Light foxing to the upper left quadrant. Losses throughout the textured three-dimensional material; through the losses, there are old nails visible. To the upper left corner, there is a tear that measures 4 1/2 in as shown in the listing image. Along the lower margin and the frame, there are major losses to three-dimensional components. Along the verso, the canvas fabric appears to be heavily toned and has soiling throughout; along the left margin, there are major tide lines/evidence of water exposure. The rest of the canvas verso could not be inspected due to the nature of how the item is framed; wooden panels are affixed to the frame. Throughout the frame, there are losses as shown in the listing image; four corners appear to be repainted/restored.
