Joe Geshick (Miskakeebaneesh) (Ojibwe, 1943-2009). Giclee on canvas titled "Bear Clan" depicting a figure within a bear, 2000. Signed and dated along the lower right; titled and numbered 10/350 along the lower left.

Said Geshick of this work, "I dedicate this painting to an Ojibway medicine man referred to as old man Burnside, who during my childhood years, gave me my Indian name, Miskakeebaneesh. This means a big bird coming down from the sky. This old man was from the Bear Clan who lived on the Nett Lake Indian reservation in northern Minnesota. The old woman inside the sweat lodge represents the honoring of the four elements of life: infant, teenager, adult, and old age."

Sight; height: 23 in x width: 17 in. Framed; height: 25 3/4 in x width: 19 3/4 in.

Condition

The surface is not entirely stable. Along the edges there are areas where the giclee has begun to lift from the canvas. There are several small losses along the edges. The signature is written in gold, though the last name has lost most of the gilding as well as the date. Verso not inspected. Light wear to the frame.
