Jacques Courtois (French, 1621-1675). Oil on canvas titled "Battle Between Christians and Turks," depicting a seething cavalry battle. Fallen soldiers lay with their horses in the foreground while the battle rages behind. A city stands in the background, partially obscured by a plume of smoke rising from the back of the battle. The artist's name is inscribed on a curved brass nameplate.
