Jacob Maris (Dutch, 1837-1899). Oil on canvas painting titled "Plowing" depicting a horse drawn plow with a farmer leading the team through a field. Signed along the lower right. With a label from Master Framers Incorporated, St. Paul, Minnesota indicating a restoration in December 1990.
Sight; height: 18 1/4 in x width: 30 1/2 in. Framed; height: 26 in x width: 38 in.
Condition
There are no major losses, tears, or restroations when viewed under UV light. Light wear along the edges including minute losses due to rubbing. Craquelure throughout. As indicated by a label along the verso, the painting was cleaned in 1990 which included removing the old varnish. Some areas of thicker or dripped varnish present. Light wear to the frame. The stretcher shows wear commensurate with age. There are signs of glueing along the keys of the stretcher.
