Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797-1858). Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797-1858). Depicting a small village nestled in misty mountains.

Utagawa Hiroshige II (Japanese, 1829-1869). Print titled "Makurabashi yau (Evening rain at Makurabashi Bridge)," from the series "Sumidagawa hakkei (Eight views of the Sumida River)." Depicting figures walking over a bridge in pouring rain.

(Sheet, each) height ranges from 13 in to 14 1/2; width ranges from 9 in to 10 in. (Matted, each) height: 18 in x width: 13 in.

Condition

The colors are bold and bright. There are no visible tears, losses, or restorations to the prints themselves. The sheets are toned and affixed to acidic mats. Wear throughout the mats, including some handling marks and light soiling along the margins; some frits along the extreme edges. There are two areas of soiling along the upper quarter of one of the mats. There are penciled inscriptions of numbers along the lower right corner of five mats. Five of the six works are unframed.
