Paul Jacoulet (French, 1896-1960). Group of two woodblock prints. One titled "Les Jades Chinoise" depicting a woman dressed in finery against a red background with a dragon. The other titled "Fleurs du Soir Truck-Toloas" depicting a woman leaning against a balcony surrounded by blooming flowers.

Paul Jacoulet was born in Paris but grew up in Japan with his professor father, and from childhood cultivated an interest in Japanese woodblock printing, eventually forming his own extremely successful print publishing company, the Jacoulet Institute of Prints.

Condition

The pieces show no visible sign of restoration under UV light. Both papers are toned and have foxing.
The larger image shows no visible tears, but has undulation to the sheet. In the center of the lower margin, there is light soiling, possibly transmitted from the verso. In the lower right quadrant, there is a minute surface stretch that is not visible at arm's length. Framed under plexiglass; this piece was not examined out of frame.
The smaller piece's colors are bold and bright; there is an approx 1/4 inch long tear to the center of the right margin. The right edge of the paper board is worn, possibly original to the artistic process, and the other three edges have minute dark brown pen marks, potentially original to the artistic practice. The paper is mounted on another paper; along the verso of the paper, there is light foxing and light line marks that do not affect the image.
