Pair of antique well carved Chinese Qing soapstone figures, each in the form of an expressive seated individual. One with a child or other small figure and the other holding a fan and book with their arm resting on a wooden side table.
Each, height: 4 in x width: 5 in x depth: 1 3/4 in.
Condition
No major chips or losses that would affect the overall appearance of the items. Both are lightly discolored consistent with age and use. Both show natural lines as shown in the listing image. To the figure with a baby there is a noticeable hairline crack that is extending from the underside to the hand, measuring approximately 5 in. Both items show light brown discoloration along the natural lines. The figure with a book has noticeable discoloration to the tip of their hat. Some dirt collected along the recessed areas of the work. Wear to the underside. No visible sign of restoration under UV light. The figure with a baby has an area along the back that shows a color difference under the UV light along a C-shaped crack which may be an attempted restoration, but it is difficult to discern.
