Gabriel Viardot (French, 1830-1906). Aesthetic movement curio cabinet. The superstructure with a glazed beveled shaped door and arrangement of shelves, with one drawer with an abalone bird (one missing) and foo dog shaped handles juxtaposed with shelves below decorated with a mythological beast support. On a pierced fretwork apron and scrolled feet.

Provenance: From the Estate of Horst Rechelbacher, Osceola, Wisconsin.

Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients, was a pioneer in the field of safe and eco-friendly cosmetics. The same curiosity that led him to explore ways to improve the beauty industry led him to travel the world, collecting rare and beautiful objects as he went.

Height: 67 3/4 in x width: 26 in x depth: 12 in.

The cabinet is in generally good condition. The structure is stable and sturdy. There are a few small splits, losses, and areas of lifting to the veneer. No major losses, and no visible restorations. All doors and drawers open smoothly and the key turns properly. The glass shows no chips, cracks, or scratches. The velvet in the upper shelf shows some fading and wear. Wear and soiling to the surface as expected; the lowest shelf shows more notable wear, with one area of loss to the veneer and a few faint moisture rings.
