Frederic Sackrider Remington (American, 1861-1909). Bronze sculpture depicting two troopers, soldiers during the American Frontier Wars, on horseback fleeing an unseen adversary. One balances a rifle as he reaches out his arm to keep his wounded bunkmate, or bunkie, upright. A bull skull rests along the ground as the men dash forth in their retreat. Signed along the base of the bronze. Sculpture affixed to a marble base with a golden plate that reads "The Wounded Bunkie by Frederic Remington."Height: 20 in x width: 24 1/2 in x depth: 14 1/2 in.
