Nicola Calace (Italian, 1859-1923) and Raffaele Calace (Italian, 1863-1934) for Fratelli Calace, Italy. Neapolitan mandolin with a pear shaped back and ornate inset mother of pearl and shell accents, ca. 1891. The word "Virginia" is inset into the neck of the mandolin with mother of pearl. A label affixed along the interior reads "Fabbrica Di Strumenti Armonici Fra.lli Nicola E Raffaele Calace Fu Antonio Via Universita N. 9 e 10. Anno 1891. Napoli."
