Frank Henry Tompkins (American, 1847-1922). Oil on board landscape painting depicting trees along an embankment, dated May 1877. Signed F. H. Tompkins and dated along the lower left margin. Tompkins studied at the Art Students League in New York, the Cincinnati School of Design, and at the Munich Art Academy. His work was exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Boston Art Club.
Unframed; height: 8 in x width: 5 3/4 in. Framed; height: 16 1/2 in x width: 14 1/2 in.
The painting is in generally good condition with no tears, losses, or restorations when inspected under UV light. There is craquelure throughout the artwork and the varnish appears to have yellowed somewhat. There is a small accretion along the center right; visible in the lot listing.
