Evelyn Gathings (American, 1927-2010). Oil on canvas painting depicting a child holding the leash of a Borzoi dog as they stand in front of a Renaissance-style wall mural. Signed along the lower right. With a label from Challis Galleries, California affixed to the verso.
Unframed; height: 48 in x width: 48 in. Framed; height: 49 in x width: 49 in x depth: 1 3/4 in.
The colors are bold and deep. There are no major losses, tears, or restorations. There are a few impressions along the center of the work: one along the child's neck, one just to the left of the child's left elbow, and one in the upper left quadrant. There is faint craquelure throughout and some areas of minute paint losses throughout. There are stretcher bar marks along the perimeter. There is a scuff to the surface to the paint along the upper left quadrant. Some very light wear along the extreme edges of the canvas. There are a few areas of moisture exposure along the verso that do not appear to affect the recto. Light wear to the frame.
