A professional American football player for the San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and Los Angeles Rams, Chapple always expressed an interest and proficiency in art from an early age. After retiring from the NFL in 1975, he began a career as an artist full-time and specialized in California impressionist landscape paintings.

There is no sign of restoration when inspected under UV light. The surface is stable and the color is bold and bright.
