Currier and Ives was founded by Nathaniel Currier (American, 1813-1888) in 1835 as "the Grand Central Depot for Cheap and Popular Prints," but changed its name with the addition of James Merritt Ives (American, 1824-1895) in 1857. The company created over 7000 popular lithographs depicting American life until 1907.

Condition

The sheet is toned. There is some soiling along the edges. Some light areas of foxing. Soiling to the verso. Pencil inscription "XO -" along the verso. Two areas of light skimming, likely from a previous framing, along the upper left and right corners along the verso. No evidence of restoration when viewed under UV light. The work is not framed.
