The innovative fusion of light and color make Bertil Vallien's sculptures among the most celebrated in Europe. Raised in Sweden, Vallien was drawn to the creative freedom of art and inspired by the textural possibilities of clay. He studied ceramics at the Konstfack School of Arts, Crafts, and Design and then spent time in Los Angeles, where his glass art won a prize in the Young Americans competition for his stoneware entry Family on Whale. After returning to Sweden, a fascination with maximizing glassâ€™s ability to absorb light became his passion. Heâ€™s known best for his boat forms, faces, and heads. The item is in good condition with no major cracks or losses. Light wear throughout as expected. Under UV light, there is no visible sign of restoration. Throughout the exterior, there are scratches that are original to the piece. Due to the original design, it is difficult to discern whether some scratches are original or damaged. However, none of them alters the overall appearance of the item. There is a minute dent to the tip of the nose, visible in the lot listing.
