Ancient Roman silver bracelet torc, or torque, in the form of a double headed snake, incised to create the impression of snake skin, 1st-2nd century CE. The snake which sheds their skin every year, was a symbol of rebirth and rejuvenation during this time period. The mythical serpent, also called "linnormr" in Old Norse, or lindworm, was common in pagan religious beliefs in the Migration Period across Scandinavia and northern Europe.
