After Louis Carrogis de Carmontelle (French, 1717-1806). Engraving on paper of Benjamin Franklin casually seated at a table in profile view with his hat resting upon a book and a document hanging over the edge. The room is elegantly paneled with a large open window with a view of sailing vessels. This is a depiction after a watercolor by Carmontelle. In other renderings, the document on the table reads: "Les Loix de la Pensilvanie." Marked "A.P.D.R." along the lower center, "M. Fefsard. Sculp." along the lower right, and "L. C. de Carmontelle, Del." along the lower left.
