Thomas Loraine McKenney (American, 1785-1859) and James Hall (American, 1793-1868). Two lithographs from the "History of the Indian Tribes of North America," depicting two portraits of Native American men. One labeled "Mon-Ka-Ush-Ka, A Sioux Chief" and the other labeled "Yaha-Hajo, A Seminole Chief."

Literature: Thomas McKenney and James Hall, "History of the Indian Tribes of North America, with Biographical Sketches and Anecdotes of the Principal Chief. Embellished with One Hundred and Twenty Portraits, from the Indian Gallery in the Department of War, at Washington," Philadelphia: Frederick W. Greenough, 1838-1844.

(Each) Sight; height: 17 3/4 in x width: 12 3/4 in. Framed; height: 28 in x width: 22 3/4 in.

Condition

There are areas of staining on both artworks as well as foxing and undulation with light creasing. There may be minor fading to the images. Creasing and signs of handling are present on both. The Sioux chief is matted in speckled linen, which is lightly soiled, as visible under a UV light. Acid burn and moisture exposure are present on the Sioux chief print. Framed under glass, some soiling on glass. Light wear to the frames including dents, scratches, and abrasions. Not examined outside of frames.
